Grainne Ryan, from Grainne Ryan Medical Aesthetic Clinic has been chosen as this month’s Practitioner of the Month for Munster.

In this insightful Q&A, we sit down with a leading aesthetics practitioner whose journey into the field is rooted in a strong medical background and a passion for patient-centred care. With expertise spanning oncology, dentistry, and advanced aesthetic medicine, their approach blends science, precision, and artistry to deliver subtle, confidence-boosting results.

From heartfelt patient transformations to the evolving future of regenerative aesthetics, they share the experiences, values, and vision that continue to shape their practice. This offers a thoughtful perspective on what it truly means to enhance not just appearance, but overall wellbeing.

1. What inspired you to enter the field of aesthetics? Tell me about your journey as a practitioner.

My background is in medical field. I first trained in Radiation Therapy & Oncology which garnered me an intimate knowledge of head and neck anatomy. From there I explored further training and completed a Dental Degree. I was drawn to aesthetics because it sits at the intersection of science, artistry, and patient care. Early in my career, I recognised the impact that subtle aesthetic treatments could have on a person’s confidence and wellbeing. I pursued extensive training and mentorship to ensure I could deliver treatments safely and ethically, and over time, my practice evolved into one focused on natural, evidence-based results.

2. What is the most rewarding part about working in aesthetics?

The most rewarding aspect is seeing the shift in how patients feel about themselves. It’s rarely about dramatic transformations—more often, it’s a quiet boost in confidence, a patient feeling more comfortable in their own skin. Being part of that journey is incredibly fulfilling. It’s also about the relationships you build with patients on their own individual journeys, it goes beyond aesthetics and becomes something so much more fulfilling.

3. Do any particular client stories stand out as moving or memorable?

There are many, but one that stands out involved a patient who had experienced significant skin changes following illness & other personal issues. Through a gradual, tailored treatment plan, we were able to restore not just her skin quality and facial structure,  but also her confidence. Her feedback was that she felt “seen” again—not just by others, but by herself. She didn’t hate looking in the mirror anymore and felt she was “back to herself”, who she felt she was on the inside was finally matching what was on the outside.

4. Which aesthetics trends do you see emerging in 2026/2027 and how are you, as a practitioner planning to stay ahead?

We are seeing a strong shift toward regenerative aesthetics, skin quality over volume, and subtle, undetectable results. The traditional fill and freeze approach is being shunned with clients preferring more subtle, natural enhancements. Patients are increasingly informed and are seeking treatments that support long-term rejuvenation rather than immediate, dramatic change. To stay ahead, I prioritise ongoing education, attend international conferences, and continuously work to up-skill and stay abreast of the latest innovations and treatments.

5. How do you help clients decide which treatment is right for them?

It always begins with a thorough consultation. I take the time to understand the patient’s concerns, goals, and medical history, and then assess their skin and facial structure. From there, I provide honest, evidence-based recommendations, and sometimes that means advising against treatment. My role is to guide, not to sell, ensuring that any treatment plan is appropriate, safe, and aligned with the patient’s long-term goals. Once you have an open, honest & trusting relationship with your patient, you already have the foundation you need to move forward with the correct treatments.
