Dr Cormac Lynch reveals how Smart Aesthetics Academy is raising the bar in hands-on, science-led aesthetic training.
What was your vision behind the academy, and what inspired its creation?
As a qualified medical doctor and dental surgeon working in Aesthetic Medicine I possess an in-depth understanding of the human body. In spite of these qualifications and the clinical experience acquired in
over 30 years of combined working as a doctor and dentist, aspects of aesthetic medicine still made me feel nervous which held back my own potential and that of my patients’ results.
I truly believed that healthcare professionals needed better structure, more academic detail, independent scientific education and better hands-on clinical experience to make them both competent and
confident. Smart Aesthetics academy was born with a heavy focus on 1-1 bespoke training and mentorship, aspects that were missing when I was at the start of my career. Smart stands for Science-based, Medical Aesthetic, Rejuvenation Training.
In an increasingly competitive aesthetics industry, what sets Smart Aesthetics Academy apart from other training providers?
Smart Aesthetics Academy is a medical-led training academy for registered healthcare providers across the UK and Ireland. I am the only dual-qualified, aesthetic, educational provider on the island of
Ireland. My medical and extensive surgical experience have helped me to develop my manual dexterity and delicate tissue handling.
Although we offer small group courses like most other academies, I personally believe these have limited educational value, so our focus is on a more bespoke approach with delegate-led 1-1 training. This
allows our delegates to be in full control and really focus on aspects they need to improve their own skill and knowledge base.
How would you describe your approach to delivering high-quality, clinically focused education for both new and experienced practitioners?
My approach is very delegate-led. I reflect hard on the challenges, fears and obstacles that stood in my way and ensure all our programmes have the solutions built in. I believe that when an injector truly masters anatomy, their clinical ability reaches a new level.
My teaching style is positive, encouraging and nurtures self-belief. We accept there are risks with all procedures but instead of scaremongering and holding injectors back, we ensure all our delegates
are trained to recognise and deal with them.
As the aesthetics industry continues to evolve, how do you keep your training aligned with the latest techniques, standards, and best practice?
The aesthetics industry moves quickly, but at Smart Aesthetics Academy, we are always guided by science over hype. New treatments, devices, and protocols are only introduced after I have personally assessed them in my own clinic, on my own patients, and seen clear evidence of safety, tolerance, and genuine clinical results.
This means our delegates can trust that we only teach safe, clinically effective treatments, not social media trends or fads. We also collaborate with leading international speakers, bringing high-level education and best practice directly to clinicians locally. This ensures our training remains current, evidence-based, and focused on delivering the best outcomes for both practitioners and patients.
Do you have any success stories yet?
Since launching, Smart Aesthetics Academy has quickly made its mark, running a four-month Study Club in 2023 and a 10-month mentorship programme with guest speakers including Dr Vincent Wong, Gillian Murray (CMAC), and marketing expert Padraig Fitzsimmons. In July 2025, the academy hosted the first Longevity, Regenerative Aesthetic Medicine & Menopause Symposium in Dublin, featuring Professor Ali Ghanem, Dr Nichola Conlon, and Dr Siobhan Kirk, with over 80 delegates attending and €5,000 raised for LauraLynn Children’s Hospice.
