ACE Group World Introduces New Framework to Strengthen Emergency Governance in Aesthetic Medicine

A new clinical governance initiative has been developed by ACE Group World to help enhance emergency preparedness in aesthetic practice.

Against this backdrop, ACE Group World has launched EDICT (Emergency Direction for Immediate Complication Treatment). This is a clinically governed framework designed to support the safe, timely and accountable management of medical complications by authorised healthcare professionals.

Rather than introducing a new prescribing model, EDICT has been developed as a comprehensive governance system that integrates emergency medicines access, evidence-based clinical protocols, mandatory education and robust reporting processes within a single framework.

Responding When Every Minute Matters

Although serious complications following aesthetic procedures remain rare, they require immediate recognition and intervention when they do occur. Time-critical emergencies such as suspected anaphylaxis or vascular compromise demand both clinical confidence and rapid access to appropriate treatment.

EDICT has been designed to support practitioners by enabling prompt access to clinically indicated emergency medicines, including adrenaline for suspected anaphylaxis and hyaluronidase for vascular compromise, where immediate intervention is critical. All access and administration operate within UK medicines legislation, professional guidance and established clinical governance processes.

The framework also provides structured decision-making pathways to assist clinicians in recognising complications, assessing severity, initiating treatment where appropriate and escalating care without unnecessary delay.

Moving Beyond Emergency Kits

Emergency medicines have long been recognised as an important consideration in aesthetic practice, but ACE Group World believes effective patient safety extends far beyond simply possessing an emergency kit.

EDICT incorporates evidence-based protocols, annual competency requirements, mandatory emergency response training, and defined reporting obligations designed to promote consistency and accountability across clinical practice.

Every emergency intervention undertaken through the framework must be reported within 24 hours via the ACE Group World reporting system, supporting audit, clinical governance and continuous quality improvement.

Governance at the Core

Importantly, ACE Group World emphasises that EDICT operates strictly as part of its Emergency Medicines Governance Framework.

The programme does not provide prescribing authority, nor does it constitute the sale, supply or independent access to prescription-only medicines. Instead, it functions as a governance and access control framework that supports authorised healthcare professionals working within their legal scope of practice, indemnity arrangements and regulatory responsibilities.

This distinction reflects the increasing emphasis being placed on governance within the aesthetics profession as it aligns more closely with wider healthcare standards.

Supporting Professional Standards

Supporting the framework is the newly developed ACE Group Emergency Kit guidance document, an evidence-based, peer-reviewed educational resource outlining medicines that may be required during time-critical complications.

The Emergency Kit guideline is an educational resource and does not override or replace medicines legislation relating to the holding or supply of prescription-only medicines.”
